Why Yoga?

“Yoga is more than just building flexibility and strength. Yoga is a practice of self-reflection, kindness and self-compassion, encouraging continued growth and self-awareness. Yoga opens up the possibility of connecting to who we really are.”

- Maria Noe

"I'm not flexible enough for yoga."

This response always makes me smile and chuckle. Saying you're too inflexible to practice yoga is like saying you are too dirty to take a shower.

Yoga is often misunderstood in our society, in my opinion. If you've never practiced yoga, then you either think its only for women who want to sleepily stretch on mats at the gym, or only for super-flexy contortionists. Neither are true.

Yoga is for every-body.

In fact the physical postures (asanas) represent only 1 of the 8 Limbs (or pillars) of Yoga. Further, this ancient practice is over 5,000 years old. - So much for writing it off as "just a fad!"

"Yoga is a system, not of beliefs, but of techniques and guidance for enriched living."

The word yoga means "to yoke" or "to bring into union." Another way of understanding it is, as a means to bring into balance the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our being.

Yoga enables us to do so by incorporating movement, meditation, mindfulness, breathing exercises, contemplation, self-study and more.

Yoga is NOT a religion, but you could also view it as "the practice of deepening connection and understanding of your Inner Self."

Yoga, for me has allowed me the grace to see myself through every chapter of my life. It has taught me peace, patience, flexibility (both on the mat, and off), love, and acceptance of myself and others.

I would be honored to share my practice of yoga with you.

Yoga really attends to the body, and the breath attends to stillness.
It allows you to feel everything you feel, to tolerate every sensation,
and to live and move with it.
